Kwik Fit BTCC: Ingram strikes back to set up winner takes all finale with Hill at Brands Hatch

06 October 2024

Tom Ingram delivered an emphatic performance to seize victory in the penultimate Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship race of the year and set up a winner takes all finale against Jake Hill this afternoon.

Hill initially led the second race of the day from pole position, settling into an initial lead from Colin Turkington’s similar BMW, but Ingram was on the attack from third almost immediately. The Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS Hyundai was all over Turkington’s Team BMW machine on the exit of Druids and through Graham Hill Bend before it fired around the outside at Hawthorn.

Ingram set about cutting down Hill’s lead with seeming ease throughout the following corners before setting up a run out of Clark Curve. Hill was first across the line to secure what could be a valuable point for leading a lap, but Ingram was though to first at Paddock Hill Bend following a brave dive down the inside.

From there, Ingram settled into his groove and controlled the race from the front through its mid-stages, keeping Hill’s chasing Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW at bay. From there, Ingram drove home to the chequered flag, securing fastest lap along the way. With bonus points factored in, that means he trails Hill by just a single point heading into the last race of the season.

Behind Hill and Turkington, who drove home in formation to the flag, the battle for fourth was settled by a lively duel between NAPA Racing UK’s leading contenders. Ash Sutton had started towards the rear of the field following his retirement in the earlier race, but he made short work of storming through the pack to rise to the top-five by lap four. By the latter stages he was hounding Dan Cammish’s sister car, but ultimately had to settle for fifth.

Behind that, Aron Taylor-Smith, Josh Cook, Aiden Moffat, Tom Chilton and Sam Osborne completed the top-10.

This result essentially sets up a straight fight between Hill and Ingram, with both drivers knowing that finishing ahead of their rival will be enough to secure the title.
