Masters Historic brings retro favourites to Brands Hatch on Spring Bank Holiday weekend

21 May 2023

Brands Hatch will transport spectators back to the past when the Masters Historic Festival returns for a nostalgic bank holiday showpiece on the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend (Saturday 27/Sunday 28 May). The meeting will feature a wide range of classic machinery, including Grand Prix cars from 1966 to 1985 in the Masters Racing Legends category.

Star Masters Racing Legends entries on the full Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit will include machinery from McLaren, Tyrrell, Lotus, Williams and Hesketh. All of the cars will be presented in iconic period liveries, offering a real throwback to when the Kent circuit frequently hosted British and European Grands Prix.

These cars all hail from the normally-aspirated three-litre of Formula 1, with many propelled by the iconic Cosworth DFV engine. Famous paint schemed and the classic sound of the sport will combine to treat fans to an authentic retro experience at a circuit which has changed little over the years.

Notable cars provisionally expected to line up include a pair of McLaren MP4/1Bs, as raced in the 1982 Grand Prix season by Niki Lauda and John Watson. Another notable car from the famous team which is planning to appear is Warren Briggs’s McLaren M29, as raced in 1979 by Watson and Patrick Tambay. Click here to view the current entry list.

The Masters Racing Legends cars will star in two races on the Sunday and top a busy programme across the event. Other special highlights will include the Masters Endurance Legends series for ‘90s and ‘00s Le Mans machinery, including top level LMP1 prototypes.

Masters Sports Car Legends will shine a light on sports-racing cars from an earlier period, including machines that would have raced in the Brands Hatch 1000km and other similar long distance events in the ‘60s. This could include examples of the famous Lola T70.

This year’s meeting will also include the Masters GT Trophy for 21st century grand touring cars, plus the Masters Gentlemen Drivers series for ‘60s racing GTs. The line-up will be completed by the HRDC Gerry Marshall Trophy for ‘70s touring cars.
