BTCC legend Alain Menu to join Super Touring Power Celebrations

20 June 2023

British Touring Car Championship legend Alain Menu will attend Brands Hatch’s inaugural Super Touring Power event as a special guest on 1/2 July.

The two-time BTCC champion will join the celebrations for one of tin top racing’s most fondly remembered eras, meeting members of the public as well as joining in with autograph signings and interview sessions.

Menu was one of the star names of the BTCC’s ‘90s Super Touring period, leading Renault’s successful efforts for much of the decade after debuting in a BMW in 1992. His first victory followed in a Renault 19 a year later, and he established himself firmly as one of the series’ superstar title contenders during a five-year streak at the wheel of the French manufacturer’s Lagunas.

After sealing a dominant title in 1997, one more season with Renault followed before Menu moved to Ford’s works team. This culminated in a second title success in 2000, making him the only individual to twice win the BTCC during the Super Touring period as well as the series’ last champion of the era.

Following a brief stint in Germany’s DTM series, Menu became a factory driver for Chevrolet in the World Touring Car Championship, and claimed the manufacturer’s first series victory at Brands Hatch in 2005. After his time in the WTCC ended, Menu returned to the BTCC for a final full-season campaign in 2014 in a Volkswagen.

Menu joins an impressive list of special guests at Super Touring Power, which will celebrate not just the Super Touring era, but multiple generations of tin top competition. Menu’s fellow ‘90s BTCC superstars Paul Radisich and Anthony Reid have already been confirmed for race appearances, whilst former V8 Supercars racers Greg Murphy and Steven Richards are making the trip from New Zealand for the occasion. They will all be joined on the grid by current BTCC star Jake Hill.

Discounted advance tickets for Super Touring Power at Brands Hatch on 1/2 July are available from £25 with free entry for under-13s. For more information click here.
