Super Touring Power: Jake Hill seals quadruple victory

02 July 2023

Jake Hill secured a sensational quadruple victory in the Classic Touring Car Racing Club (CTCRC) Super Tourer races at Brands Hatch this weekend, winning both Sunday races on the Indy circuit following Saturday’s Grand Prix loop double.

Hill, who normally races for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport in the modern day British Touring Car Championship, was terrifically quick behind the wheel of an ex-Laurent Aiello Nissan Primera all weekend. The current BTCC frontrunner followed up his day one successes with pole position around the Kent circuit’s shorter layout this morning and rarely looked back.

In the first of today’s two races, Hill led from the start in his Richard Wheeler owned Primera, controlling the pace and keeping rapid Honda racer Stewart Whyte at bay. The race was briefly halted by a red flag following an off for David Power at Paddock Hill Bend, but Hill picked up where he left off when the race resumed to keep Whyte behind during a six-minute dash to the line.

Behind that Jason Hughes’ Vauxhall Vectra completed the podium. But the man on the move late in the race was Wheeler himself in another of the Primeras. A late charge up the order included a bold move on teammate Anthony Reid at Paddock Hill Bend, as the ex-works cars completed the top-five.

Greg Murphy was sixth ahead of fellow New Zealander Steve Richards in the battle between the V8 Supercars legends a little further back. Murphy was racing the ex-Matt Neal Nissan Primera which was presented at the front of the grid in pre-race in tribute to Team Dynamics founder Steve Neal, whose death was confirmed earlier on.

The top-10 in the first of today’s Super Tourer races was completed by James Kellett, Mark Jones and Paul Radisich.

In the fourth and final Super Tourer race of the weekend it was Whyte who made the best start to lead as the field streamed into Paddock Hill Bend for the first time. His advantage was short lived however as he ran off the track during the latter half of the lap under pressure from Hill.

From there Hill assumed the lead, but he was unable to pull immediately away from Hughes’ Vauxhall with Reid in close pursuit too as the trio at the front circulated close together. Hill eventually cruised home to pass the chequered flag first for the fourth time with the other two following him home.

Richards claimed fourth in the Volvo S40 his father Jim raced in period, rising up the order after a spin from Wheeler, with Kellett completing the top-five.
